At Midwest Nephrology Consultants, our physicians are trained and educated in the specialty of nephrology. Our compassionate and comprehensive medical treatment together with New technologies for diagnosing kidney disease, new treatments and medications have all enabled our nephrologists to treat his or her patients with a greater degree of success. 

Dr. Max Glaser

Dr. Glaser has been a board certified, practicing nephrologist since 1995. He has been a practice partner with Midwest Nephrology Consultants since 1996. In 2002, Dr. Glaser completed additional training to begin performing interventional nephrology procedures to care for the practices' dialysis patients' interventional access needs. As the practice's primary interventionalist, he devotes a major part of his professional time to interventional procedure work, performing over 500 procedures annually. He is also the Medical Director for our largest Dialysis Unit, KCDT. Dr. Glaser is a committed and caring nephrologist with a "one-on-one" style, interacting and really listening to his patients' concerns. Their comfort and welfare are his top priority. Dr. Glaser and his family reside in Overland Park, Kansas.

Dr. Robert Golder

Dr Golder is a graduate of UMKC School of Medicine and Washington University. He joined Midwest Nephrology Consultants in 1997 and is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Nephrology. Dr. Golder is a Medical Director for Fresenius Dialysis Center - Raytown. He is on staff at most major hospitals in the Metro Area. He is passionate about educating his patients regarding their renal disease and what they can expect during their treatment course. He is very involved with their care and follow-up. Dr. Golder’s practice focus is primarily in the Kansas City MO area, but also follows patients in Lee’s Summit and at our outreach clinic in Harrisonville MO. In his free time Dr. Golder enjoys spending time with his son and daughter, reading, movies, travel, and all things “Apple”. The KC Business Journal recently published for the 5th consecutive year that Dr. Golder has been selected as one of the best doctors in Kansas City! He has completed a two year term as Medical Staff President for Research Medical Center.

Dr. Abid Khan

Dr Khan joined Midwest Nephrology in 2008 and is a graduate of the University of Missouri Kansas City, completing his fellowship training at the University of Minnesota. Dr. Khan enjoys spending time with his patients and focuses on describing the medical condition, how it's diagnosed, and how it is treated. He takes particular pride in providing simple, thorough explanations of complex disease processes and making sure all questions are answered before he leaves the room. Dr. Khan makes it a point to see his patients in a timely manner and is always available for questions that may arise after the visit. Dr. Khan also follows patients in our Richmond outreach clinic. He serves as Medical Director for the Independence Dialysis Unit.

Dr. Hemender Vats

Dr. Vats joined Midwest Nephrology Consultants in 2012 and is Board Certified in Nephrology. He is a graduate of the University of Iowa, Iowa City, with a fellowship in Nephrology from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. He also completed additional training in Interventional Nephrology and joined Dr. Max Glaser in the Interventional Procedure Suite – caring for our dialysis patients’ accesses. He also sees patients in the office, hospital, and dialysis units. Dr. Vats is very attentive to his patients; listening to their concerns and anxieties and helping to educate them about kidney disease and its implications so that together, a concrete plan to manage the disease can be developed. He works with the patient’s primary care providers to ensure a well-rounded care plan for his patients is established. Dr. Vats has a special interest in dialysis vascular access and works to help his dialysis patients maintain their access with timely interventions so they benefit from the most effective dialysis treatments. Dr. Vats serves as Medical Director for Lee’s Summit Dialysis Unit and works closely with the dialysis nurses ensuring his patients receive the best care possible. His goal is to promote home dialysis treatments including home peritoneal and hemodialysis. Dr. Vats resides in Leawood, Kansas with his wife and two daughters.

Dr. Tewabe Kebede

Dr. Tewabe Kebede graduated from Gondar University in 2003. He completed a year of research work at Rush University in Chicago before entering his Internal Medicine Residency at Louis A. Weiss Memorial Hospital - Chicago, Illinois. His Nephrology Fellowship was accomplished at Albert Einstein College of Medicine - Jacobi Program - in Bronx, NY in 2010. Upon completion of his Fellowship, Dr. Kebede has been in private Nephrology Practice in Atlanta, Georgia before joining Midwest Nephrology Consultants and moving in 2018 to the Kansas City area to be close to family. Dr. Kebede’s patient care philosophy is simple: “provide care with compassion.” He truly enjoys his time with patients and staff and has a particular interest in increasing the utilization of home dialysis treatments. He’s had multiple publications in peer-reviewed journals and has served in directorship roles in both outpatient and inpatient dialysis centers. Dr. Kebede holds ABIM Board Certifications in both Internal Medicine and Nephrology. He and his wife have two daughters and reside in Overland Park, Kansas.

Dr. John Mowrey

Dr. John Mowrey will be joining our practice in August 2023. He is finishing up his nephrology fellowship at the University of California Davis. Dr. Mowrey is board certified in Internal Medicine. He is planning to sit for his board certification in Nephrology in November 2023. His medical interests include nephro-pathology, dialysis delivery & quality improvement, medical policy nephrology, medical industry, and medicine, in general. He is also undergoing certification for interventional nephrology. Dr. Mowrey is a current active member of Renal Physicians Association (RPA), he has completed the First Look Fellowship Program with RPA, and has participated in the local California dialysis committee in Sacramento. He has travelled and studied in Salamanca, Spain  and did medical mission in Lima, Peru. He and his wife have two sons. Although his time for his interests has lessened since he is focus on his family and training, he enjoys reading science and historical fiction; and medical history. Despite his busy schedule, he has participated in multiple half & full marathons and enjoys scuba diving.

Nancy Delacruz,

APRN-C

Nancy joined Midwest Nephrology in 2015. She received her Master’s degree in Nursing from the University of Oklahoma in 2003 following an eight-year career as an RN. Nancy worked as a registered nurse in the neonatal intensive care unit, and as a renal dialysis nurse prior to becoming an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner. Educated and trained in family practice, Nancy has practiced in clinical settings to include pediatrics, women’s health care, and nephrology. As a military spouse of over 20 years, Nancy worked at various locations to include an Army medical center where she was awarded the Achievement Medal for Civilian Service. She has provided quality, personalized nephrology care in the KC metropolitan area over the last 10 years. Nancy has quickly become a vital part of MNC; her overarching concern for her patients and their follow up care has quickly made her indispensible to our practice. Nancy and her family reside in Kansas City.

Teresa K. Calais, BA

Practice Administrator


Teresa Calais joined Midwest Nephrology Consultants as a Practice Administrator in 2021. She graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia. Before joining the Midwest Nephrology family, she was at Otologic Center, Inc. Teresa has worked in the healthcare field as a Practice Administrator for over 15 years.


Teresa’s expertise lies in her collaborative leader skills that she uses to guide the medical practice and to find innovative solutions. Teresa is seasoned in compliance and human resource management.


Teresa’s experience in business management, decreasing overhead, and increasing productivity will aid in the growth of Midwest Nephrology. Teresa enjoys making sure that patients are getting the best services Midwest Nephrology Consultants offers!

Tawnya Jacoby, CPC

Business Office Manager


Tawnya Jacoby, CPC, began her career in 1983, when the Practice was known as Midwest Renal Consultants. In 1985, the Dialysis side of the Practice was bought out by Bio-Medical Applications - and Tawnya’s position remained with BMA - working for them from 1985-1988.


Tawnya was still in involved with the physicians during that time, just not on a daily basis. In November of 1988, Tawnya again became an employee of the physicians – now known as Midwest Nephrology Consultants. Tawnya started as a front desk receptionist and through the years she has been promoted and advanced to the position of Business Office Manager.


Tawnya is a Certified Coder and received her certification in May 2006, with an additional ICD10 proficiency in 2016. She is currently a member of the AAPC, RPA, and GKCMMA. Tawnya oversees the daily operations of MNC’s 3 main offices and supervises all business office staff in these locations.

Melissa Hoppe,

CNA, CMA

Patient Advocate


Midwest Nephrology Consultants welcomes Melissa Hoppe to our healthcare family. Melissa has been in the healthcare field since 2010. Melissa’s core value is, The Golden Rule: “Treat others how you want to be treated”. She incorporates an understanding of what others may be feeling and thinking, empathy and intuitiveness is part of her personality and professional goal.


One of Melissa’s strengths is that she looks at the bigger picture to understand how and why a person may feel or think a certain way. These things may include medical diagnosis, financial hardship or personal circumstances. She has found that listening attentively, paying attention to details and asking questions helps her get a better understanding of every person she meets and their circumstances. Melissa is a wonderful patient advocate because of her ability to understand and communicate and help patients their needs and concerns.

Katie Barnes, CMA

Clinical Coordinator


Katie Barnes, CMA, has been the Clinical Manager at Midwest Nephrology Consultants since 2009. She joined MNC in 2003 as a medical assistant before being promoted to her current position as Clinical Coordinator.


She received her Medical Assistant Diploma in 2002 from Concorde Career Institute and recently received her Certified Clinical Medical Assistant registration/designation. Katie oversees the clinical staff and daily clinical operations for the practice and is also the personal Clinical Assistant to Dr. Arakelov.

Pam Shelton, RN

Procedure Suite Coordinator


Pam Shelton, RN, has been in the health care field for 30+ years starting her career as a hospital aide. Working while completing her RN education, Pam graduated in 1982 from Penn Valley Community College in Kansas City with an Associates’ Degree in Nursing. She practiced floor and home health care nursing for 6 years before going into surgical nursing, where she worked for over 20 years in the same Kansas City Hospital. Pam has been with Midwest Nephrology Consultants, PA, as the Procedure Suite Coordinator since the inception of its office-based access center in November of 2006. Pam oversees the daily operations of the suite in addition to functioning as the primary Scrub RN for the interventional physicians.

 Lorraine Hills,  CMA

Assistant Clinical Coordinator


Lorraine Hills, CMA, has been in the health care field since 1985. She has been in Nephrology since 1994 and became a part of the Midwest Nephrology team in 2010. She earned her Associates Degree in 2001. She holds dual certifications as a Certified Nursing Assistant and most recently earned her Certified Medical Assistant Registry Certification. Over the years, she has gained experience in multiple positions including Receptionist, Medical Records, Medical Assistant, New Patient Coordinator, and Office Manager. She currently wears several hats at MNC including: Certified Medical Assistant, scrub tech in our Procedure suite, and Assistant Clinical Coordinator.
